Might as well join in :-)

Yeah, the crazieness Simon manages to pump out of his machines was a bit too much for most of the people who turned up at the Paradiso, Amsterdam. But his performane had some very beautifull moments, with sounds you had never heard before. I had the impression he was trying out what worked and what not, on stage! But it was all miles away from the dancefloor!

I was surprised too by their stage qualities! They've just started with live-gigs and allthough this showed in the lack of build-up in the set, Mike Golding & Steve Rutterreally did a great job. They played some material from Time Tourist, but if I'm not mistaken they also did a fine & long version of Outerim, with fucked up snares and crazy knob-twidling efects. At last -the rather introveredt- crowd was dancing!!

Must correct you on this one. IMHO they put up something really special last night. Deep & mysterious, dark & abstract. This strange concert was one of the best electronic gigs I've heard (not seen, since Sean & Rob had ordered to turn down all the stage light!) in a long time. Their live set is miles away from the dancefloor, let alone that good old 4x4. I never heard so much asynchronisity but it all fitted perfectly in the long & dark drones this Mancunian duo dropped on this. Autechre clearly stands alone in the field of IDM. I seriously doubt if this is called IDM at all, they're so Industrial orientated. Especially on stage. In August Autechre returns to do a combined gig with musical Dadaists Zoviet France. That says it all really. On the whole, the evening in Paradiso was a bit strange. It took a long time for the crowd to get into the atmosphere and into the very left field DJ set by Chantal. Although it was a Warp promotional tour they had done very litle on decor, slides, video art and stuff. A pity really. Great T-shirts though, and I really like that funny cute Blech flyer! What I like even more is the tape the first 100 people to enter Paradiso got. I've got it, trainspotters: here's the tracklist of WARP MC46: Autechre - Carni Freeform - Mastik RAC - Quexos Freestyle B12 - Infosphere Mira Calix - Khala Haven't played it yet. Still recovering from last night ;-) So, who else was there? I know a whole bunch of the Lowlands mailinglist showed up.
